Volaris Baggage Policy 2026: Carry-On Size, Fees, Pets

A Volaris carry-on can measure up to 55 x 40 x 25 cm (22 x 16 x 10 in) and weigh 10 kg. Only the Plus bundle includes one; Zero and Basic passengers pay to add it. Volaris doesn't say whether wheels and handles count, so measure the bag fully packed. An older Volaris cabin page still lists two bags at 22 lb total, which we treat as outdated.

The 20 kg combined cap means a full 10 kg carry-on still leaves room for a heavy laptop bag under the seat.

Personal items on Volaris can measure up to 35 x 45 x 20 cm (13.8 x 17.7 x 7.9 in), and every fare includes one, Zero too. Volaris names a backpack, handbag, briefcase or laptop bag, and the item must fit under the seat in front of you. No weight limit is published for the personal item alone.

Yes, the limit is 10 kg (22 lb) for the carry-on, and 20 kg for the carry-on and personal item together. Volaris sets both limits in kilograms on its baggage pages. If you bought Zero or Basic, any carry-on you bring must be paid for, and the gate price is the highest one in the fee table.

Zero includes 1 personal item and nothing else. Basic adds one checked bag of 15 kg (33 lb), but still no carry-on. Plus includes the personal item, a 55 x 40 x 25 cm carry-on and one checked bag of 25 kg (55 lb). Every checked bag must stay within 158 linear cm.

Basic is the only Volaris bundle with a checked bag but no carry-on, so a cabin roller costs extra even when a suitcase is included.

On Mexico to USA flights, the carry-on costs up to $102 at booking and the first checked bag up to $180. Volaris publishes these as maximums that vary by season and route.

Each checked bag can measure up to 158 linear cm (62 in). The weight depends on the fare: 15 kg on Basic and 25 kg on Plus or on any extra bag you buy. You can add up to 5 checked bags per passenger. No piece may exceed 45 kg, even with excess fees paid.

Overweight fees on domestic Mexican flights run up to MXN 1,200 for a bag of 16 to 25 kg, MXN 1,440 for 26 to 35 kg and MXN 2,041 for 36 to 45 kg. Mexico to USA flights charge up to $180, $204 and $276 for the same bands. The first band starts at 16 kg, one kilogram above the Basic allowance. Volaris says oversize fees apply but its fee table shows no oversize amount.

Two free checked bags go to Basic and Plus passengers who pay with a Volaris INVEX credit card, and Zero gets one 25 kg bag. The card also adds a 55 x 40 x 25 cm carry-on on every fare. The benefit applies twice a year and only when the whole booking is paid with the card or the card plus altitude points. Volaris does not offer a military or status-based bag waiver; v.club gives fare discounts, not free bags.

Yes. One dog or cat per passenger can fly in the cabin in a carrier up to 44 x 30 x 19 cm (17.5 x 12 x 7.5 in), weighing 26 lb (12 kg) with the pet. The fee is up to MXN 1,900 on domestic flights or $192 on international routes. Pets up to 45 kg with the kennel can go as checked baggage. Neither option is sold on Frontier-operated flights.

Each flight carries at most 16 pets (10 dogs, 6 cats), cut to 6 on flights to or from Bogotá.

Sports gear can weigh up to 25 kg and measure up to 250 linear cm. Volaris lets you use a checked bag allowance for it at no extra cost. Added as separate sports equipment, it costs up to MXN 1,560 on domestic routes when booked through the call center, or up to $170 on international routes.
