Lufthansa's Economy Comfort and Flex fares include 1 checked bag up to 23 kg, plus an 8 kg carry-on up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm and a 40 x 30 x 15 cm personal item. Business Flex and intercontinental Business Class include 2 bags of 32 kg each. Since 19 May 2026, Economy Basic on selected European routes allows the personal item only.
Lufthansa uses the piece concept: Economy Comfort and Flex in Europe include 1 checked bag up to 23 kg, and Business Flex includes 2 bags up to 32 kg each. On intercontinental flights, standard Economy gets 1 bag of 23 kg, Premium Economy 2 bags of 23 kg, Business 2 bags of 32 kg and First 3 bags of 32 kg. Light fares in Economy carry no checked bag on any route.
Lufthansa sells these European fares jointly with Austrian, Brussels Airlines, SWISS, Air Dolomiti, Discover and Lufthansa City Airlines.

A Lufthansa carry-on can measure up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm and weigh up to 8 kg. Economy and Premium Economy passengers get one such bag plus a personal item, while Business and First get two bags of 8 kg each. Economy Basic is the exception and includes no carry-on. Lufthansa doesn't say whether wheels and handles count, so measure the bag with them on.
Every Lufthansa fare includes one personal item up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm, such as a laptop bag or small backpack. It goes under the seat in front of you. No separate weight limit is published for it.
Only a 40 x 30 x 15 cm personal item. Economy Basic went on sale for travel from 19 May 2026 on selected European routes, and it drops the free 8 kg carry-on that Economy Light still includes. You can add a carry-on or a checked bag for a fee, with the carry-on from about EUR 20 per direction. HON Circle, Senator and Star Alliance Gold members still take one carry-on free on this fare.
Lufthansa's European fare table no longer shows an Economy Classic fare; the middle fare is called Economy Comfort.

Each checked bag can measure up to 158 cm in total (width plus height plus depth). In Economy and Premium Economy the weight limit is 23 kg per bag; Business and First allow 32 kg. Bags over 32 kg are refused as baggage, and oversize bags are taken as excess up to 292 cm.
Fees for a bag over 23 kg (up to 32 kg) or over 158 cm are flat rates set by route and shown in Lufthansa's baggage calculator. An extra 23 kg bag within Europe costs from about EUR 70, with higher rates on intercontinental flights. On certain routes, Economy passengers pay a discounted flat rate for a second 23 kg bag, and you can book extra bags under My Bookings.

Infants under 2 get 1 bag up to 23 kg on any fare, and children from 2 years get the adult allowance. Other extras: - HON Circle, Senator and Star Alliance Gold: free carry-on on Economy Basic in Europe. - The same members on intercontinental flights: 1 free bag on Economy Light, plus a second free bag on Premium Economy Light and Business Light. - Toddlers: 1 foldable pocket buggy in the cabin.
Yes, small dogs and cats up to 8 kg including the container fly in the cabin. The carrier can measure up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm (118 cm total), and it comes on top of your normal baggage allowance. Only one container per passenger is allowed, and Lufthansa books the space no later than 72 hours before departure. The fee depends on the route and is charged once per direction, about EUR 50 to 80 within Europe and more on long haul. Larger animals travel as air freight.
Trips to, from or via Germany need dogs and cats to be at least 15 weeks old, versus 12 weeks elsewhere.
Any bag you bring to the gate counts as carry-on, Lufthansa says, so Economy passengers board with 1 carry-on and 1 personal item and nothing extra. On Economy Basic, only the personal item is free unless you bought the add-on. Economy Flex includes Priority Boarding, which helps when bins fill up.
On tickets with more than one airline, the rules of the carrier flying the most significant route apply. Trips to or from the US and Canada work differently: if Lufthansa is on the first segment, its baggage rules cover the whole journey.
