EgyptAir economy passengers get 1 cabin bag of up to 8 kg and 118 cm (55 + 40 + 23 cm), and each checked bag can weigh 23 kg (50 lb). Business Class checks 2 pieces of 32 kg (70 lb) on international routes, while the economy piece count follows your fare rules. Since 1 January 2026, Asmara tickets carry only one checked piece.
Business Class checks 2 pieces of 32 kg (70 lb) each on international flights and 1 piece of 32 kg on domestic flights within Egypt. Economy bags weigh up to 23 kg (50 lb), but the international piece count is set by the fare rules of your ticket, and EgyptAir publishes no route zone table. Domestic economy gets 1 piece. Asmara is the exception: since 1 January 2026, every ticket to or from Asmara carries one checked piece in both cabins.
EgyptAir's allowance page gives no economy piece count by route zone and defers to the fare rules of each ticket.
| ROUTE | ECONOMY | BUSINESS |
|---|---|---|
| International | Per fare rules, 23 kg (50 lb) each | 2 x 32 kg (70 lb) |
| Domestic (Egypt) | 1 x 23 kg (50 lb) | 1 x 32 kg (70 lb) |
| To/from Asmara | 1 piece | 1 piece |
| Infant | 1 x 10 kg (22 lb); 23 kg to/from USA and Canada | Same |
Economy passengers get 1 cabin bag of up to 8 kg with total dimensions of 118 cm (55 + 40 + 23 cm). Business Class gets 2 pieces at the same 8 kg and 118 cm each. The rule covers international and domestic flights. Some departure airports set their own limits: 58 x 45 x 25 cm, wheels and handles included, in the UK, and 56 + 36 + 23 cm (115 cm) at 7 kg in South Africa.
| ITEM | ECONOMY | BUSINESS |
|---|---|---|
| Pieces | 1 | 2 |
| Weight per piece | 8 kg | 8 kg |
| Size | 118 cm (55 + 40 + 23) | 118 cm (55 + 40 + 23) |
| UK airports | 58 x 45 x 25 cm | 58 x 45 x 25 cm |
| South African airports | 115 cm, 7 kg | 115 cm, 7 kg, 2 bags |
No personal item size is published for EgyptAir flights in general. The conditions of carriage only require cabin baggage to fit under the seat in front or in an overhead bin. At South African airports, economy adds one slim laptop bag to the single cabin bag. A stroller for an infant travels in addition to the allowance.
Each checked piece can measure 158 cm (62 in) in total, length plus width plus height. Weight depends on cabin: 23 kg (50 lb) in economy and 32 kg (70 lb) in Business. As paid excess, the airline accepts bags up to 32 kg and 203 cm, with surcharges above the standard limits.
From Cairo, an extra 23 kg bag costs $150 at the airport to Europe, or $135 if you buy it through the call center or website. Online rates apply until 24 hours before departure. Middle East routes cost $130 ($115 online), Far East $250 ($225), and the USA and Canada $200 either way. All rates are in USD and exclude taxes.
Asmara carries the highest extra-bag rate in the Cairo table at $600, four times the Europe price.
| FROM CAIRO TO | AIRPORT | ONLINE | 10 KG BAG (AIRPORT) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic | $30 | $30 | $20 |
| Middle East | $130 | $115 | $80 |
| Europe | $150 | $135 | $90 |
| Africa (most) | $140 | $140 | $85 |
| USA / Canada | $200 | $200 | $120 |
| Far East | $250 | $225 | $150 |
| Asmara | $600 | $600 | $360 |
A bag between 23 and 32 kg, or between 158 and 203 cm, pays a surcharge equal to half the extra-bag rate: $75 on a Cairo to Europe flight. If it breaks both limits, the surcharge equals the full rate, $150 to Europe. These sit on top of the extra-bag price. EgyptAir accepts excess baggage only when space allows.
| FROM CAIRO TO | OVERWEIGHT OR OVERSIZE | BOTH |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic | $15 | $30 |
| Middle East | $65 | $130 |
| Europe | $75 | $150 |
| USA / Canada | $100 | $200 |
| Far East | $125 | $250 |
Not published: EgyptAir lists no fare family names on its baggage or booking pages. Economy allowance on international routes reads 'according to fare rules', so the number of free pieces depends on the ticket you buy. Business stays at 2 pieces of 32 kg internationally regardless of fare.
One extra piece goes to EGYPTAIR Plus Gold and Elite members and to Star Alliance Gold members, in both cabins and on domestic routes too. EGYPTAIR Plus Platinum members choose instead between 50% off excess fees on EGYPTAIR flights or one checked 10 kg handbag on MS flights.
Yes, cats and dogs can fly in the cabin if pet and carrier weigh 8 kg or less and the hard or soft carrier fits 55 + 40 + 20 cm. Pets travel outside the free allowance and are charged separately, though EgyptAir publishes no fee. In the hold, each container holds up to 23 kg; heavier animals travel alone and count as two pieces. Request the booking at least 48 hours ahead. Live animals can't fly to the UK, UAE, Kenya or to or from South Africa.
Falcons are accepted under EgyptAir's own rules, and several brachycephalic dog and cat breeds are refused on connecting flights.

Yes, within your free allowance: golf, ski, scuba, fishing and bike gear all count as checked pieces. A golf bag can weigh 23 kg. A bicycle can weigh 32 kg and measure 250 cm in total. Overweight sports items pay 50% of the applicable excess baggage charge.
An infant gets 1 checked piece of 10 kg (22 lb), raised to 23 kg (50 lb) on flights to or from the USA and Canada. One fold-up stroller travels on top of that. The same 10 kg piece applies on domestic flights.
8 kg on most departures, for 1 bag in economy and 2 in Business, at 118 cm total. South African airports apply 7 kg and 115 cm instead.
