Avianca allows one carry-on up to 55 x 35 x 25 cm (22 x 14 x 10 in) and 10 kg (22 lb), wheels and handles included, on every fare except Basic, plus a free personal item. On Basic and Light fares to or from North America, the first checked bag costs from USD 85 when bought more than 48 hours ahead. Business includes two 32 kg bags.
The carry-on can measure up to 55 x 35 x 25 cm (22 x 14 x 10 in), counting wheels and handles, and weigh up to 10 kg (22 lb). It comes free on Light, Classic, Flex and Business. Basic fares include only the personal item, so a roller bag has to be bought separately.
The 25 cm (10 in) depth leaves an extra inch over a bag sold as 22 x 14 x 9 in.
Your personal item can be up to 45 x 35 x 20 cm (18 x 14 x 8 in) and must slide under the seat in front. Every fare, Basic included, gets one free. Avianca names a purse, backpack, diaper bag, laptop bag or small package as examples. Staff check sizes at the airport and gate, and a bag that won't fit the sizer can be charged as extra baggage.
Yes, a 10 kg (22 lb) limit applies to the carry-on, so expect it on the scale at check-in or boarding. The personal item has a size limit only; Avianca publishes no weight for it. When the cabin is full, staff move carry-ons to the hold free of charge.
Basic includes only the 45 x 35 x 20 cm personal item. Light adds the 10 kg carry-on. Classic and Flex add one 23 kg checked bag. Since November 11, 2025, Business is sold as Business Classic or Business Flex, and both include two 32 kg bags plus the carry-on. Basic can't buy priority boarding on routes within the Americas. lifemiles Elite and Star Alliance Gold members get about one extra 23 kg bag.
Tickets bought on the old Business fare before November 11, 2025 keep their original change and refund conditions.
